RICHARD GREEN

Richard Green began began his art career at the age of eleven by studying and copying the old masters such as Rembrandt and Michelangelo. Moving into movie star portraits and cartoon drawings as a teenager, he was discovered by the head of an advertising agency who made him his personal assistant. Richard attended the prestigious Ringling School for his formal art training, where he won multiple awards for his student work. He was drafted by the Disney Studios in Florida while still at Ringling, and eventually made his way to California to work with the last of Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men of Animation; Mark Davis, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston. Green became an animator and worked on such films as Beauty and The Beast (focusing on the character of Lumiere), and The Rescuers Down Under.

His love of monsters began at an even earlier age, when discovered the Shock Theater movies on his local television station at the age of three. He fell in love with all of the Universal Monsters, citing Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein as his favorite of the films. Though a traditionalist at hear, Richard also has a soft spot for Freddie Kreuger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and enjoys drawing and painting monsters from all eras.
Since leaving Disney, Richard enjoys attending conventions and his work is in several galleries around the country. He still paints and draws every day, and continues his love for the beautiful classic animation of Walt Disney Studios.
